This is Brooke DePinto, the principal of Harkers Island Elementary School calling with some important information for the coming week. The weekly All Call is sent out to Harkers Island families every Sunday evening and the script for the call can be located on our school website and Facebook page.

Upcoming Dates to Note:

• Thursday, October 8th - Fire Prevention Presentation (K-2), Curriculum Night (5:00-7:00)

• Saturday, October 10th - World Mental Health Day

PBIS Quarter 1 Reward Trip: Paperwork and permission slips for our Quarter 1 Positive Behavior and Attendance Field Trip will be coming home on Monday. We are excited to announce that we are going to Grace Adventure Park and for a pizza lunch at Shevans Park. Please return your child's permission slip with $10 by Friday, October 16 for this trip. Remember that all behavior and attendance criteria must be met through October 21 to remain eligible for the trip. 

Reading for Education: We kicked off Reading for Education last week! Your child brought home a lanyard with more information about how to invite family and friends to support our school in bringing books to our classrooms! When students return their completed lanyard, they will receive a special Book Buddy prize and have opportunities for additional prizes.

Curriculum Night: Mark your calendars and plan to attend our very first Curriculum Night on Thursday, October 8 from 5:00-7:00! This will be a great night to hear from your child's teachers about the wonderful things happening in their rooms and how you can best support your child's learning. Our amazing PTO will be serving a FREE fried chicken dinner to start the night. You don't want to miss this!

Halloween Bash: Our PTO is sponsoring a Halloween Bash on Friday, October 16 from 5:30-8. Come out to enjoy Trunk or Treat, a bounce house, dinner, costume contest and more! Child wristbands are $10 and additional food will be for sale for adults. It is sure to be a fun night to support our HIES PTO!

HIES Christmas Choir Opportunity: We are excited to announce a "kick-off to Christmas" music concert that will be hosted by the HIES PTO and performed by the gospel group Heaven's Harbor on Friday, November 27 (7:00-8:30)! This concert is a fundraiser to ensure each student has a wonderful Christmas season here at HIES. During the concert, there will be a special performance of two songs by the Harkers Island Elementary Choir! All HIES students are eligible to be a part of this night. Each choir member will receive all materials necessary to practice at home. There will be up to two after-school practices from 3:00 to 4:00 pm. Official after-school practice times will be announced as we approach the concert date. Please fill out and return permission slips that went home last week by Friday, October 9 if you are interested.
