This is Brooke DePinto, the principal of Harkers Island Elementary School calling with some important information for the coming week. The weekly All Call is sent out to Harkers Island families every Sunday evening and the script for the call can be located on our school website and Facebook page.

Upcoming Dates to Note:

  • Monday, September 28th - Miles for Smiles Dental Van

  • October - National Physical Therapist's Month

  • Thursday, October 1st - FULL DAY for HIES, PTO (5:30-7:00)

  • Friday, October 2nd - Teacher Workday (NO SCHOOL), National Custodial Workers Day

Miles for Smiles Dental Van: The Miles for Smiles dental van will be here on Monday, September 28. If you have not returned your form and want your child to be seen by the dental van, please return the form this week.

PTO Meeting: There will be a PTO meeting this Thursday from 5:30-7 at HIES. All parents are encouraged to attend and learn more about how our PTO is supporting HIES staff and students!

Reading for Education: We will kick off Reading for Education this week! Your child will bring home a lanyard with more information about how to invite family and friends to support our school in bringing books to our classrooms! When students return their completed lanyard, they receive a special Book Buddy prize!

Curriculum Night: Mark your calendars and plan to attend our very first Curriculum Night on Thursday, October 8 from 5:00-7:00! This will be a great night to hear from your child's teachers about the wonderful things happening in their rooms and how you can best support your child's learning. Our amazing PTO will be serving a FREE fried chicken dinner to start the night. You don't want to miss this!

Halloween Bash: Our PTO is sponsoring a Halloween Bash on Friday, October 16 from 5:30-8. Come out to enjoy Trunk or Treat, a bounce house, dinner, costume contest and more! Child wristbands are $10 and additional food will be for sale for adults. It is sure to be a fun night to support our HIES PTO!

National Custodial Workers Day: This Friday, 10/2 is National Custodial Workers Day and we are so very fortunate to have Mr. G. and Mr. Matt keeping our school clean and safe each day. Take a moment to share your thanks with these wonderful members of the HIES team this week!

Calendar Change: There is an important calendar change for HIES only! We will have an Early Release Day on Friday, December 4 to prepare for the Decoy Festival. The Early Release Day on the district calendar for Thursday, October 1 will now be a full school day for HIES students.
