This is Brooke DePinto, the principal of Harkers Island Elementary School calling with some important information for the coming week. The weekly All Call is sent out to Harkers Island families every Sunday evening and the script for the call can be located on our school website and Facebook page.

2026 Testing Update: HIES Met Growth! According to our 2026 state testing data our students met their growth goals for the year. While this is a huge celebration, we will continue to consider ways to continue this positive growth for our school. Huge thanks to each of our families for supporting us in this journey!
Online Paperwork Process: The online forms process has been extended until September 18 and we hope to have 100% of our students with completed paperwork. We've made it to 81% complete. This online system allows you to update phone numbers, addresses, and emergency contacts, and sign off on medical, photo, and technology agreements - all online. One important note: you'll need your own Parent Portal account. You can find the link to complete this process on the CCPS or HIES websites. If you need a device, internet access or some help with the process please come to the school between 8:00 and 4:00 and we will be glad to help you!
Technology Updates: Please note that students will not be issued a school device until the TechnologyUse Agreement form is signed online and the yearly $20 (Grades 3-5 only) technology fee has been paid. You can pay any fees by sending/bringing in cash or check. Thank you for your understanding!
Picture Day: Picture Day will be Friday, September 18. Information will come home in student folders this week and all students will take individual and class pictures. If you want to purchase the class picture, money is due prior to picture day. If you only want individual pictures, you can wait until you get the proof to decide.
Calendar Change: There is an important calendar change for HIES only! We will have an Early Release Day on Friday, December 4 to prepare for the Decoy Festival. The Early Release Day on the district calendar for Thursday, October 1 will now be a full school day for HIES students.
Student Engagement Survey: As part of our ongoing efforts to support student success and create a positive school experience, we would like to invite your child to participate in a brief School Engagement Survey. The survey is designed to help us better understand how students feel about school, including their sense of belonging, relationships with adults and peers, and overall engagement in their learning and school community. The information collected will help our school identify strengths and areas where we can better support students. The survey will be completed quarterly, during the school day. Participation is voluntary, and students may choose not to answer any question they are uncomfortable answering. An opt-in letter with a copy of the survey will be coming home this week. Please review the information and sign the permission slip if your child can participate in our survey.
