This is Brooke DePinto, the principal of Harkers Island Elementary School calling with some important information for the coming week. The weekly All Call is sent out to Harkers Island families every Sunday evening and the script for the call can be located on our school website and Facebook page.

Monday, August 24th - First Day of School!, Staggered entry for

Thursday, August 27th - First Day for all Kindergarten
First Day of School Drop Off: We encourage you to promote your child's independence by letting them ride the bus or go through our regular carpool line from the beginning of the year to practice these important procedures. If you are new to our school or have a child who is feeling very anxious about this, we invite you to walk them in on the first day and then move to the regular dropoff plan the following days. Kindergarten parents will be able to walk students in the first week of school.
Online Paperwork Process: Beginning of year paperwork can be completed in the Parent Portal through August 31. Although we will have a couple of paper items, this process replaces the large stack of forms you normally fill out on the first night of school. You'll be able to update contacts, and sign off on important forms - all online! One note: you'll need your own Parent Portal account. A student login won't work. If you need to set one up, check our website homepage or social media for a link to a quick setup video. Come to the main office if you need a computer to access this or need assistance!
The Bridge: The Bridge program will begin on the first day of school this year! If you haven't done so already, make sure to contact them to get signed up!
Technology Updates: Please note that students will not be issued a school device until the Technology Use Agreement form is signed online and the yearly $20 (Grades 3-5 only) technology fee has been paid. You can pay any fees by sending/bringing in cash or check. Thank you for your understanding!
School Meals: Breakfast and Lunch are FREE for all HIES students this year! Please encourage your child to try our delicious meals. Students can bring meals from home AND grab a school meal!
School Supplies: Please reach out to Ms. Lindsay or your child's teacher if you need school supplies!
Kindergarten Dates: Kindergarten students will begin school with a staggered entry day on either August 24 or 25 and will be off on August 26. All kindergarten students will begin on August 27.
HIES Merchandise: HIES merch is for sale through the PTO through August 31! Get more information online or in your child's paperwork folder so that you can get your merch ordered for the year!
