Good Evening Islander families,

This is Brooke DePinto, the principal of Harkers Island Elementary School calling with some important information for the coming week. The weekly All Call is sent out to Harkers Island families every Sunday evening and the script for the call can be located on our school website and Facebook page.

This Week at HIES:

● Tuesday, May 12th - Wear Green for Mental Health Awareness, mCLASS testing (4/5)

● Wednesday, May 13th - mCLASS testing (K/3)

● Thursday, May 14th - mCLASS Testing (1/2), ECHS Graduation Parade

End-of-year Assessments: Over the next couple of weeks students will have several opportunities to show us what they have learned this year on their end of year assessments. Make sure to keep a look out for grade level specific information in student folders, newsletters, and on Dojo. It is important that students are completing work/homework and at school each day to end the year strong!

Mental Health Awareness: May is National Mental Health Awareness Month and May 10-16 is Mental Health Awareness Week. Center for Safer Schools will spotlight Mental Health Awareness by asking schools to wear green on Tuesday, May 12. Wear Green!!

Family Engagement Event: Get ready for Family Engagement Night on Tuesday, May 19! Come outfrom 5-6 PM for a FREE hotdog dinner and check out your child’s work. Then stick around for our chorus performances and shadow puppet show. You might just learn some life (and science) lessons!

New Bathroom Procedures: We have had multiple issues of bathroom graffiti, vandalism and instances of purposeful lack of cleanliness. Starting on Monday, we will be asking students to sign out of their classroom to go to the bathroom and sign back in when they return. This will allow us to isolate potential problems and address them quickly so that all of our students have a safe and clean restroom. Thank you for supporting these efforts!
