This is Brooke DePinto, the principal of Harkers Island Elementary School calling with some important information for the coming week. The weekly All Call is sent out to Harkers Island families every Sunday evening and the script for the call can be located on our school website and Facebook page.
This Week at HIES:
Tuesday, April 28th - Earth Day Field Trip (3-5)
Wednesday, April 29th - Earth Day Field Trip (K-2)
Thursday, April 30th - Math NC Check-ins (3-5), PBIS Coin Store
Friday, May 1st - Early Release @ 12 PM, Kidz in Lidz Hat Day
Earth Day Field Trips: All of our students will travel to the Core Sound Water Fowl Museum for hands-on Earth Day activities this week (3-5 on Tuesday/K-2 on Wednesday) and permission slips were due on Friday. If you have not turned in your forms, please turn those in to your child's teacher tomorrow morning. All students should bring a bagged lunch (unless they requested a school lunch on the permission slip) and snack. Remember to apply sunscreen and bug spray to your child prior to school and have them wear close-toed shoes and layers since the trip is outdoors.
Kidz in Lidz: Students can pay a dollar (or more!) on May 1 to wear a hat for the day to benefit Children's Cancer research and support.
Early Release: Friday, May 1 is our final Early Release Day of the year. Dismissal will be at 12 PM.
Spring Picture Orders: Spring picture proofs went home last week. Please return your orders/money by May 8 so that we can ensure that pictures are back by the end of the school year.
NC Check-ins: Our final NC Check-ins for Grades 3-5 will be this week. While these assessments are not graded they help our teachers plan instruction and review, so please encourage your student to take their time and do their best on the Math Check-in on Thursday, April 30.
Teacher Appreciation Week: Teacher Appreciation Week is the week of May 4-8. Join us in celebrating our wonderful teachers by writing a thank you note or card, sending in a small gift or treat, volunteering your time or support, or simply saying "Thank You!".
