This is Brooke DePinto, the principal of Harkers Island Elementary School calling with some important information for the coming week. The weekly All Call is sent out to Harkers Island families every Sunday evening and the script for the call can be located on our school website and Facebook page.
This Week at HIES:
Week of April 20th - National School Library Week, Public School Volunteer Week
Tuesday, April 21st - Reading Check-ins (3rd-5th)
Wednesday, April 22nd - Earth Day, National Admin. Professional's Day, Volunteer Breakfast
Thursday, April 23rd - Science Check-in (5th grade), History Museum Trip (4th grade)
Friday, April 24th - Planetarium Field Trip (3rd grade)
Staff Celebrations: This week is National School Library Week and National Administrative Professional's Day on Wednesday. Ms. Allison and Ms. Sherri are such important parts of our school family and do so much to support our staff, students and families. Please take a moment to thank them for all that they do this week!
Spring Picture Orders: Spring picture proofs went home last week. Please return your orders/money by May 8 so that we can ensure that pictures are back by the end of the school year.
EOG Testing Letter: All 3rd-5th grade families will receive a letter this week with EOG test dates and information regarding the retest opportunity.

Yearbooks: Yearbooks are on sale for $20 and must be preordered by 4/24, by sending in cash or check (made out to HIES). Forms were sent home prior to Spring Break with yearbook information.
Public School Volunteer Week: Public School Volunteer Week is April 20-24 and we love our volunteers! All volunteers should have received an invitation to our Volunteer Breakfast that will be held on Wednesday, April 22. If you don't find your invitation and have volunteered for us this year, please call or email Ms. Lindsay for more information! Make sure to RSVP to the office by 4/21!
NC Check-ins: Our final NC Check-ins for Grades 3-5 are coming up. While these assessments are not graded they help our teachers plan instruction and review, so please encourage your student to take their time and do their best on these assessments:
Tuesday, 4/21: Reading Check-in (3-5)
Thursday, 4/23: Science Check-in (5th only)
Tuesday, 4/28: Math Check-in (3-5)
