This is Brooke DePinto, the principal of Harkers Island Elementary School calling with some important information for the coming week. The weekly All Call is sent out to Harkers Island families every Sunday evening and the script for the call can be located on our school website and Facebook page.

Month of January - Board of Education Appreciation Month
Thursday, January 8th - PTO Meeting (6 PM)
Board of Education Appreciation Month: January is School Board Appreciation Month. We are so very thankful for the Carteret County Schools School Board and all they do to support our students, staff, and schools. Special Thank You to our district board member, Ms. Kathryn Chadwick, who goes above and beyond for the Down East schools.
PTO Meeting: The January PTO meeting will be on Thursday, January 8 at 6 PM. We welcome ALL HIES parents to join us as we discuss second semester events!
4th Grade Symphony Field Trip: Our Fourth Graders have the opportunity to hear the NC Symphony at Croatan High School in January. Field trip permission forms have already gone home, so make sure these are returned as soon as possible.
End of Quarter/Semester: It is hard to believe, but the first half of the school year is coming to a close. The last day of Quarter 2/First Semester is January 16. As we start back after this Winter Break, please take a moment to encourage your child to finish the first half of the year strong!
PBIS Field Trip: Our Quarter 2 positive behavior field trip is coming up! The number one field trip choice for our students was to go to Altitude Trampoline Park and we are excited to announce that we will be taking this trip on January 30. This trip will be $20 and will include 2 hours of jump time, a pair of socks, pizza and water. Permission slips will be coming home next week. Please remember the following criteria for Quarter 2 must be met for students to participate in our field trip:
No OSS or Bus Suspensions
No more than 1 Office Referral
No more than 3 documented minor incidents
No more than 6 Unexcused absences and/or tardies.
