Good Evening Islander families,
This is Brooke DePinto, the principal of Harkers Island Elementary School calling with some important information for the coming week. The weekly All Call is sent out to Harkers Island families every Sunday evening and the script for the call can be located on our school website and Facebook page.
Upcoming Dates to Note:
● Tuesday, October 21st - CogAT Testing (3rd Grade)
● Wednesday, October 22nd - National Unity Day (Wear ORANGE), CogAT Testing (3rd Grade)
● Thursday, October 23rd - CogAT Testing (3rd Grade)
● Friday, October 24th - Pink Out for Breast Cancer Spirit Day (Wear PINK)
Quarter 1 Reward Trip - Our first quarter reward trip is scheduled for Thursday, November 6. All students who met our positive behavior and attendance criteria for the quarter are invited to go to Fort Benjamin Park for an afternoon of pizza, freeze pops and fun! The eligibility requirements were sent home the first week of school and additional information will come home in your child’s folder on Monday. Please return any field trip documents requiring signature as soon as possible and reach out to your child’s teacher with any questions.
Spirit Days - October is a busy month of celebration, including Anti-bullying Month with Unity Day, Breast Cancer Awareness, Red Ribbon Week, and Halloween! Go ahead and mark your calendars and get those outfits ready for the following dates:
● Wednesday, 10/22: National Unity Day-Wear ORANGE
● Friday, 10/24: Pink Out for Breast Cancer Awareness-Wear PINK
● October 27-31: Red Ribbon Week
○ Monday, 10/27:Wear RED to show you make great decisions!
○ Tuesday, 10/28: Team up against bad choices by wearing TEAM APPAREL
○ Wednesday, 10/29: Make great choices from head-to-toe by wearing FUN SOCKS
○ Thursday, 10/30: Make your dreams come true by wearing PAJAMAS
○ Friday, 10/31: Wear a school-appropriate COSTUME for Halloween
Cogat Testing - Our third grade students will participate in CogAT testing on October 21-23. CogAT measures students’ learned reasoning abilities in the three areas most closely related to success in school: Verbal, Quantitative, and Nonverbal Batteries. A letter with additional information was sent home to third grade families, but if you have questions, please contact our AIG teacher, Ms. Margaret Gaskill. There is nothing to do to prepare for this assessment except arrive at school on time after a good night’s rest and eat a healthy breakfast on testing days!
