Good Evening Islander families,

This is Brooke DePinto, the principal of Harkers Island Elementary School calling with some important information for the coming week. The weekly All Call is sent out to Harkers Island families every Sunday evening and the script for the call can be located on our school website and Facebook page.

Upcoming Dates to Note:

● Thursday, September 4th - BOG Testing (3rd Grade), Volunteer Training @ 5:30, PTO @ 6 PM

Behavior Expectations Parent Letter: We have been working hard on teaching expectations this lastweek to ensure a great year. Please check your child’s folder or binder on Tuesday for an important letter outlining our expectations, positive rewards and potential consequences for not meeting the schoolwide expectations of being respectful, responsible, and safe.

Bus Raffle: Beginning Tuesday, bus riders have the opportunity to earn a raffle ticket each time they ride the bus for good behavior. Students can enter their tickets into the weekly drawing for prizes!

3rd Grade BOG Testing: Our third grade students will take their Beginning of Grade Reading Test on Thursday, September 4. There is nothing to do to prepare for this assessment, but students should get a good night’s sleep, eat a healthy breakfast and do their best!

Carpool Reminders: If you pick up your child in carpool, please remember that K-2 students are picked up out front and 3-5 students are picked up on the cafeteria side of the building. If a 3-5 student has a K-2 sibling, they can also be picked up at the front.

Volunteer Training: If you would like to volunteer this school year and have not recently completed the volunteer training, come out on Thursday, 9/4 at 5:30 for our volunteer training. Stay for PTO!

PTO Meeting: Our monthly PTO meeting is this Thursday, 9/4 at 6 PM. Join us to hear all about our plans for the year and get involved. We hope to see you there!

Technology Updates: Please note that students will not be issued a school device until the Technology Use Agreement form is signed, any outstanding technology fees are paid, and the yearly $15 technology fee has been paid. You can pay any fees by sending/bringing in cash or check.

School Meals: Breakfast and Lunch are FREE for all HIES students again this year! Please encourage your child to try our delicious and nutritious meals. Students are welcome to bring meals from home AND grab a school meal if they like! There are also daily snacks for sale if students choose to bring money to purchase a snack/treat at lunch.

Check out our website or Facebook page or call the main office @ 252-728-3755 if you have any questions. We will see you on Tuesday as we Light the Way through another great year at HIES!
